Building Wealth: A Beginner's Guide to Securing Your Financial Future

The Office of Undergraduate Scholarships’ Financial Literacy Program is geared towards helping students create personal wealth and meet their goals. Your financial decisions now can have a long-term affect on your financial future after college. Although we highly encourage all students to take advantage of all scholarship and grant opportunities, but we do understand that expenses and debt can pile up quickly for students. By choosing to budget, save and invest, you will be able to pay off debt, send your child or yourself to college, buy a comfortable home, start a business, save for retirement and put money away for a rainy day. Building wealth requires having the right information, planning and making good choices. This guide provides basic information and a systematic approach to building wealth. It is based on time-honored principles you have probably heard many times before. By using this interactive guide, you will learn how to:

  • Set financial goals
  • Create a budget
  • Save
  • Plan your investments
  • Build credit
  • Control debt
  • Protect your wealth with basic insurance
